Sunrise Citrus & Root Smoothie

This is a wonderful creamy smoothie blend which pairs perfectly with your mornings! If you don't have access to blood oranges, simply replace with any seasonal orange variety you can find. Sweetener is optional as noted below; this blend is mildly sweet on its own, with its starring quality being the smooth, creamy texture. You might love it more than your typical morning OJ!

Ingredients

  • 1 medium carrot chopped
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 inch piece of fresh ginger root
  • 1 navel orange peeled
  • 1 blood orange peeled
  • 2 tbsp hulled hemp seeds
  • 2 cups almond milk
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup optional
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • chia seeds for garnish optional

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients, except for the chia seeds, into a high powered blender. Blend on high for 30 seconds or until smooth. Pour into two glasses and top with a sprinkling of chia seeds.

Recipe Notes

If turmeric spice is contraindicated for you, omit it; the recipe will be just as good.
